What is the LIR?
The LIR is a think tank that promotes innovation, proposes solutions to accelerate the accessibility and diffusion of that innovation, and takes the long view towards imagining tomorrow’s healthcare.
Today, the LIR brings together 14 international research labs and a budget of €1.000.000. Over the next two years it aims to grow still further, incorporating innovative companies that specialise in the digital, service and insurance domains.
Innovative companies need to promote and defend their contribution to society in general, and to healthcare in particular. With the healthcare system at the heart of public debate in France,The vocation of the LIR is to guide public authorities – especially the new government – through the process of reform of the public healthcare system, by ensuring that innovation drives that transformation.
Having been recognised as a serious intellectual player in public healthcare, the LIR has identified three priorities for 2017 and 2018:
The LIR provides studies and new data to inform decision-makers. It also facilitates networking among public and private stakeholders in the healthcare sector by involving them directly or indirectly in its research.
With that goal in mind, in January 2017 the LIR organised a symposium at the Collège de France on the following theme: “Can healthcare innovation be a growth driver?” Three months ahead of the presidential elections, this moment of exchange between academics, elected representatives, journalists and industry spokespeople provided an opportunity to reposition innovation in the public debate as a “growth driver”, rather than a “cost item”.
